How Saltillo Tile is made.

The clay is harvested from a high mountain basis in the city of Saltillo, then placed in a soaking pit to soften for 24 hours before it is manually mixed

The prepared clay is then hand-filled into pre-soaked wooden molds, then set for 8 hours.

Once firm, the surface is smoothed and flattened with a wooden trowel, then left to sun-bake for 1 to 3 days.

When dried, the tiles are hand-stacked into large kilns and fired for 32 or 36 hours.

Once cured, the product is selected and ready packaging, sealing and palletized (ready for shipment).
